Creative
Ways to Establish Relationships with Carlow Students
One of the most effective ways to continually
access the "best and the brightest"
Carlow students and graduates is to become visible
on campus. We offer various opportunities for
you to establish this "name recognition"
with students on a very personal basis. Some of
the most popular are described below. If you would
like to have someone contact you regarding the
possibilities, just fill in the Online
Employer Partnership Form or call the Career Center at 412-578-6067.
Hosting
a Student Intern
Do you have a project you’ve been putting
off because you just can’t get to it?
Get a Carlow intern to help and get to preview
a potential employee at the same time! Internships
can be full or part-time, paid or unpaid. Some
Carlow students complete internships to gain
career-related experience and academic credit,
while others are using it as a means to explore
their career options.
If you have an internship opportunity now,
you may either fax the information to us at
412-578-6667 and it will be entered into our
web-based listings.
When faxing a position, please remember to
include: Your company or organization name,
position title, brief job description, qualifications,
pay rate if applicable, application materials
requested and contact information. In addition
to being entered on our web site for student
and alumnae viewing, it will also be distributed
to the appropriate academic divisions for distribution.
Once you’ve identified potential candidates,
you can choose to interview on your site or
you may set up an on campus interview date with
us.
Conducting Mock
Interviews
The Employer Mock Interview Program consists
of employers visiting campus to conduct several
twenty minute practice interviews. At the conclusion
of the practice interview, the employer provides
suggestions to improve their interviewing skills
and/or their resume. Many employers identify
potential candidates through this process by
getting to know the candidates prior to graduation.
Connecting with
Classes and Student Organizations
Come share your "real world" career
experiences with students. Talk about your career
path, your position or share your words of wisdom
- they are extremely interested in finding out
what it’s like out there - from someone
who knows!
Career Shadowing/Mentoring
Host a student at your place of employment for
all or any part of a day. Let her "shadow"
you to see what your position involves - the
good and the bad - and what your work environment
is like. Or, serve as a mentor to a student
who shares your career interests and goals.
